What is cuptweets.com?

Cuptweets.com is a website that collects all tweeted world cup predictions and ranks all participants based on the accuracy of their predictions.

How does it work?

No need to log in, no need to sign up. All you should do, is tweet and use our hashtag while tweeting your prediction. We'll capture it. You can check your scores and ranking on cuptweets.com/your_twitter_username.
You can use our wizard to create your tweet by clicking on the "Submit your prediction"-button for each match.

How do I start?

For starters, a twitter-account might come in handy, as your predictions should be sent as a tweet (= text message that you submit on twitter).
You can use our wizard to create your tweet by clicking on the "Submit your prediction"-button for each match. Or simply use the following syntax while tweeting:
#cuptweets #team1_team2 x-x So a working example would be:#cuptweets #ENG_USA 1-0.

What hashtags should I include in my tweet?

• A cuptweet needs to have the hashtag #cuptweets otherwise we won’t find it.
• A cuptweet needs to have a hashtag for each match otherwise we don’t know for which match your score is so #team1_team2. England = ENG and United States = USA, so the match hashtag will be #ENG_USA. You can find all country shortcodes over here. Make sure you use the correct hometeam-awayteam order.
• Last you put in your score, in the most logical format known to men: scorehometeam-scoreawayteam Example: 1-0
• If you want you can put in some extra text, to fill the rest of the 140 characters.

Can I add additional text in my tweet?

Ofcourse you can. Just make sure that you use the hashtags somewhere in your tweet. Eg. "England is the best. Go go go #cuptweets #ENG_USA 2-0." Just make sure you don’t forget to actually add your predicted outcome ;-)

How are participants ranked?

Participants are ranked based on their total score (the higher the better), which is the sum of all scores on predicted games. In case of ex aequo’s, users are ordered based on number of predictions (the less the better) and date of prediction (the earlier the better).

How can I score?

For each predicted game, you’ll get a score:
1 point for a correct home win, draw or away win.
The correct score will get you 3 points.
Your total score is the sum of your scores.

What is "Most twittered outcome"?

This is the score that is most predicted by the cuptweets-participants for an upcoming match. It might give you an idea of what score people are expecting and help you in making your own prediction.

What shortcodes should I use?

Is it important to use the correct "home" and "away"- order for a game in your prediction-tweet?

Yes, otherwise we can not identify the game.

Is it possible to see my ranking compared to my friends?

Yes! A group of friends or colleagues can create their own groupranking, using a twitter-list (= a group of twitter-users). All predictions of people in such a twitter-list, will be visible on www.cuptweets.com/twitter_username/twitter_list, with its own “Hall of Fame”.

Where can I check my predictions and scores?

You can retrieve your personal overview-page by using the searchbox on the right, or just add your twitter-username to the url cuptweets.com : cuptweets.com/your_twitter_username. This will lead you to your personal page where you’ll be able to check your predictions, your scores and ranking.

I want to change my prediction. Can I?

Yes you can, until 5 minutes prior to the start of the game. Just sent another tweet, using the same hashtags but another outcome.

Until what moment can I tweet my prediction for a specific game?

Until 5 minutes prior to the start of the game. You should know however, that in case of an ex aequo, the participant with the earlier prediction takes precedence in the ranking.

Is there a prize to win?

Who knows…

How long does it take before you will capture my score?

This depends on the twitter API. If twitter has the hickups it can take a while. So be patient and regularly check your username to see if your prediction has come through.
